Winter Blues

I originally moved to Northern Virgina for a change in scenery. I didn’t want to die in the same town I grew up in (still don’t). Well, experiencing my first snow fall was exactly as I imagined it would be, magically. Then, another snow fall. Then…another. I’ve now endured two winters here in NOVA and I must say, it’s just getting old. I’ve never seen so much snow and have never had to miss work due to weather! Christmas has been over for weeks now and it it still winter. Coming from Florida, New Year’s Day was always the “end” of winter. But, now it feels like it’s been nothing but snow for a hundred years and there’s no warm sun on the horizon. The silly groundhog saw his shadow, dammit!

I miss warmth, heat, and the smell of sea salt. I miss the breeze and the palm trees. Things I took for granted when living in Jacksonville Beach for four years. I’ve “experienced” all that I care to and will never venture any farther North for living, only vacations for the rest of my life. I can’t seem to remember what it was I wanted so much about a white winter. All it’s done is take my power, ruin the car, and cause me to lose valuable vacation days at work.

Go away, Snow! And leave me be.
